World Ocean Day Clean Up
Our World Ocean Day clean up in June was a blast! The team from Plastic Free Avoca Beach was joined by a fantastic group of local volunteers, young and old. Together, we removed over 17 kg of rubbish from the beach, foreshore and park.
The theme for World Ocean Day 2023 was Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing. This year’s theme emphasizes the ocean’s role in supporting life and livelihood. The dumping of plastic debris into the ocean is a cause for concern because it harms the life there and threatens the ocean’s inhabitants. For more information see: World Ocean Day – World Ocean Day
In our recent clean up we came across far fewer plastic food service items (cutlery, plates, straws, etc.) than at previous clean ups. It looks like the statewide ban of single-use plastics introduced late last year is really working!
We are grateful to Central Coast Council and Kincumber Mitre 10 for their support of our clean up event.
